From a loss — to a community
YOYO’s story is a true one and, unfortunately, as too often happens, it has a tragic ending.
A little puppy abandoned on the edge of a ravine, found and rescued by a neighbor’s child, was then adopted by us. The rest of the gang, made up of 9 dogs and 3 cats, accepted him immediately. This was followed by almost three years of living together, friendship, and joy—until one day, YOYO was poisoned in our garden, in an agony we cannot put into words. This happened five years ago.
It was a turning point, a moment of revolt and trauma. We had to make a decision: to give up or to take revenge? We decided to move forward and continue what we had already been doing for several years together with other animal lovers, veterinarians, and the nearest shelter: helping locals sterilize their dogs and cats and trying to find people interested in adoptions.
We then realized that there is another kind of “revenge”: doing even more good for unwanted animals, victims of human cruelty. We decided that YOYO would spread his wings and watch over all our future actions, and that we would involve children in all our efforts.
After years of sustained work, we took the step to formalize our actions by founding an association—which we could name nothing other than “YOYO”.
